NV Dynamics was engaged by M/s. ON Semiconductor Technology India Pvt. Ltd. to undertake a comprehensive floor vibration assessment at their laboratory in Bengaluru. The laboratory houses multiple high-precision and vibration-sensitive equipment distributed across the floor area. As per the recommendations of the structural consultant, specially designed steel plates of 10 mm thickness have been installed across the laboratory floor by the client to ensure uniform distribution of equipment loads over the structural slab. The assessment was carried out to evaluate the vibration response and dynamic behaviour of these steel plates, particularly under operational conditions of the sensitive equipment.
A total of 20 measurement locations were selected for the study, comprising 17 locations on the installed steel plates and 3 locations on the adjacent floor slab and passage areas. Vibration measurements were performed using ultra-low-frequency, seismic-grade vibration transducers, which were directly coupled to the steel plates and the floor slab, the transducers were then connected to a multi-channel data acquisition system configured to continuously record vibration data during the monitoring period. In addition to operational vibration measurements, impact-based testing was conducted at selected locations to determine the natural frequencies of both the floor slab and the steel plate system.
The collected vibration data were subsequently processed and analysed using appropriate signal processing techniques. The measured vibration levels and dynamic characteristics were evaluated and the results and observations were compiled and reported to the client.
