Project Description

KNR Construction Limited engaged NV Dynamics to conduct a ground-borne vibration assessment for the Bengaluru–Mangaluru National Highway (NH-75) construction project in the vicinity of Bantwala town, Karnataka. The primary objective of the assessment was to quantify vibration severity levels generated by the blasting operations and to evaluate their potential impact on the structural quality and integrity of nearby residential buildings. The assessment was conducted in 2 blasting sites which comprised of 5 vibration monitoring locations. All vibration monitoring locations were positioned at an approximate distance of 75 meters from the respective blasting sites, ensuring consistency and comparability of the recorded data.

Ultra-low-frequency seismic-grade transducers were deployed at all vibration monitoring locations throughout the assessment. To ensure optimal ground coupling and reliable measurements, the transducers were mounted on metal piles driven into virgin soil or hard ground. At each monitoring location, transducers were installed to measure both vertical and horizontal vibration components, with the horizontal axis oriented perpendicular to the vertical axis and directed towards the blast source. The transducers were connected to a multi-channel data acquisition system configured to continuously record vibration acceleration data during blasting events. Background vibration measurements were also conducted during periods without blasting or excavation activities to establish baseline vibration levels. The collected vibration data was then processed and analysed by comparing it against the relevant standards and the results were reported to the customer.
