NV Dynamics was retained by Afcons Infrastructure Limited, to assess vibration severity levels due to the ongoing metro construction activity along the 11.2 km metro corridor of Kochi Metro’s Phase 2. It features a newly elevated line named pink line, with 10 new stations between Palarivattom Junction and Infopark.
The first site visit included vibration assessments at three (3) locations where piling operations were active. At each active construction site, the nearest vibration sensitive receptor was identified for vibration monitoring. Ultra-low frequency seismic grade vibration transducers were configured in three mutually perpendicular (X, Y & Z) directions at the identified receptor location. The transducers were then connected to a multi-channel data acquisition system to record the vibration acceleration data.
Assessments were carried out over a period of 1 to 2 hours to ensure adequate data sampling from the metro construction activities. Vibration data were recorded with a frequency bandwidth of 1Hz – 200Hz.
The recorded vibration data was processed and the results were compared against applicable Federal Transit Administration (FTA) guideline values.
